Initiative to Document Jerusalem Terminology for Young Readers

Much confusion about Jerusalem begins with vocabulary: Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Qibli prayer hall, gate and portal, quarter and neighborhood, courtyard and enclosure. The Academy launched an initiative to document these terms in short forms, readable on mobile, and linked to longer pages in the knowledge section.

Why terminology first?

Without fixing the name it is hard to fix the place. When a reader says «Al-Aqsa» they may mean the whole compound or the roofed building on the qibla side. The initiative sets the difference in two lines, then points to the full article.

• The most commonly used names of Old City gates.
• Gates of Al-Aqsa Mosque as entrances of movement.
• Prayer halls and domes inside the Haram.
• Vocabulary of market, quarter, and stone.

Clear terminology is mercy to the reader and fidelity to the place.
