Old City Walls
The wall surrounding the Old City in its visible form, including a set of gates still in use.
The walls draw the Old City as it is seen from outside. The visible form is linked to Ottoman works in the era of Suleiman the Magnificent in the sixteenth century, over older layers.
Gates and wall
The wall is not understood without its gates, nor the gate without the wall. Walking along the wall is an exercise in reading scale, direction, and openings.
