Summer Lecture Program on Old City Architecture

A series of sessions on Jerusalem's gates and walls and movement inside the Old City as a living urban text.

The Academy organizes a summer program of short lectures on Old City architecture. The program starts from a simple question: How do we read stone, gate, and alley without reducing the city to a single tourist image?

Session themes

  • Old City gates and their functions in organizing movement.
  • The visible Ottoman walls and the older layers beneath them.
  • Markets and alleys as daily fabric—not a backdrop for photography.
  • The visual relationship between the Old City and Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Researchers in urban history and heritage take part; materials are presented in educational language suited to the non-specialist interested reader, with references for those who wish to go further.

Who is this program for?

For students, teachers, and readers who want a clearer mental map of the city. Registration and inquiries via the contact page until capacity is reached.

Closing

Jerusalem architecture is not ornament for the platform; it is one of the keys to understanding. That is why each lecture is linked to landmark and gate pages inside the site.
