Al-Maqdisi al-Bashshari

Shams al-Din Abu Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Ahmad al-Maqdisi—known as al-Maqdisi al-Bashshari—is the author of Ahsan al-Taqasim fi Ma’rifat al-Aqalim. The value of his text appears in observation and in describing regions and cities, including Bayt al-Maqdis in his temporal layer.
Why is he mentioned here?
Because he teaches that knowledge of place begins with organized observation, not a quick impression. He is read within the layer of classical geographic sources—not as a description of the city as it is today.
