The Dome of the Rock stands at the heart of Al-Aqsa Mosque. It is attributed to the era of Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan, and its completion is commonly dated around 72 AH. The page is a general knowledge entry: location, visual importance, and its relation to the rest of the Haram.
What do we distinguish?
The Dome of the Rock is a building in its own right under the golden dome; it is not all of Al-Aqsa Mosque. The Qibli prayer hall is another building to the south. Confusing the two is among the most common errors among non-specialists.
