A joint workshop introducing interested readers to reading old city maps without forced contemporary projection.

The Jerusalem Heritage Center, one of the partners shown in the Academy’s guide, announced a workshop on reading historical maps: scale, north direction, gate names, and the limits of what appears and what is absent.

What does the participant learn?

  • Not treating the map as a photograph.
  • Comparing more than one plan from two different eras.
  • Linking a drawn gate to the gate standing today with caution.

A map is a tool of understanding if its limits are known. Inquire about the workshop via the partner page or the Academy contact form.
